Prolonged shedding of type 55 human adenovirus in immunocompetent adults with adenoviral respiratory infections huh2019prolonged

Prospective study of immunocompetent adults with respiratory infection confirmed as human adenovirus type 55 (HAdV-55) during an outbreak. Consecutive respiratory specimens (sputum or nasopharyngeal swab) were collected every 2 days and adenovirus viral load was measured by real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR), reported as copies per mL relative to symptom onset.

Human adenovirus (HAdV-55) viral load in respiratory specimens (sputum or nasopharyngeal swab) measured by real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR), reported as copies/mL and aligned to time (days) relative to symptom onset.

Fitted by censored maximum likelihood. The red line is the median individual; the shaded region is the full range of a simulated cohort drawn from the fitted population, so it shows what simulating from this dataset would produce rather than a confidence interval, with dashed lines at the central 95%. Open triangles are non-detects, drawn at the censoring limit and entering the fit as "below this value" rather than being dropped. See the modelling methods for what these estimates do and do not support.
